How To Make Christmas Paper Stars

December 16, 2024

Simple gorgeous paper stars that are easy to make and will add a festive sparkle to your house!

I came across these beautiful DIY paper stars while scrolling Pinterest for Christmas decoration ideas, so I’m not taking any credit for this at all. They look lovely and make a perfect way to use up old wallpapers or gift wrapping papers.

You can be creative with these stars in many ways to create a different look. Use festive papers, cut the edges differently or change the thickness of folds. You can turn these stars into a stunning ornament, garland, wall or window decor, they are versatile and bring a festive touch for the holidays!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Paper of any kind (old music sheets, wallpaper, gift wrapping paper or your paper of choice)
  • A pair of scissors
  • Glue (I use an all purpose glue stick)
  • Twine (cotton or jute)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Start with two pieces of paper both the same size. I usually cut a big piece of paper that is twice as long as it is wide, then cut it in halves. By this way, I have 2 pieces of paper at the same size.
  2. Start folding the paper like a fan. Fold once, flip it, fold again. Repeat with the entire paper then the other piece of paper. Make sure the process ends with a flip (for example, fold and flip, then fold and flip and ending with a flip).
  3. Fold the two papers in the middle and tie them together with a piece of twine.  tie the two together in the middle with a piece of twine. Make sure you leave it long enough since it will serve as the hanger for the star.
  4. Once you’ve added the twine, cut the ends of the fan. You can create a rounded shape or a sharper straight one.
  5. Put glue on one side and press the edges together. Unfurl, then repeat on the other sides and press together. After this step, your star is done.
