Winter Season: The Gift of Stillness

December 23, 2021

When a cool refreshing breeze blows softly round your room and the weather gets dark faster than usual, you know our winter is coming.

Winter is not my favorite nor hated season. It’s the time that when it comes, I will enjoy it the most. I love it when trees and the surrounding are blanketed with white and when I’m chilling to the bone with coldness. Longer nights and longer days where the Sun is mocked by the winter wind and the sunshine rays can’t make it through the window anymore.

It’s here. Winter has finally come. It is the darkest and the coldest season that nature mother has put on a spectacular show for anyone willing to brave the cold. Every season that nature mother has created has its own sense and so does this season. The stillness of the frozen air heightens each of the senses, making the little details of a glimmering blanket of snow even more inspiring.

Winter allows time for quiet reflection and tranquil moments of peace. In this deep stillness of nature, winter calls us to look into our depths, to reconnect to our inner being, to listen to the shadows within us and around us. To let the cycles and rhythm of the seasons, of this winter solstice bring us home to our soul.  To let us enjoy the gift of stillness. Just like nature that needs a rest, we, as human beings, are being called to take care of ourselves. It’s a time of comfort, well-being and joy.

I’ve enjoyed doing nothing in winter but nourishing my soul these cold days. The breeze is still blowing outside the window while shoppers are rushing to stores for Christmas gift purchase, holiday preparation. Oh yes, Christmas is coming in the next few days. So, bake some cookies, pick your own favorite book, play some soothing music and enjoy the stillness at the moment.
